For a searchable list of items, including instructions for proper recycling or disposal, visit Ramsey County’s A to Z Recycling & Disposal Guide. A number of items can be repaired, rather than disposed of or thrown away. Consider bringing your fixable items to a Ramsey County Fix-It Clinic.

Mattresses and Box Springs
Mattresses and box springs are problematic in the waste stream because they are hard to move, clog up equipment and are nearly impossible to compact in a landfill. Look for reuse and recycling options instead of disposing of mattresses and box springs in the trash.
Reuse Tips
- Give your old set to a relative or friend. Consider donating, but be aware that very few charities accept mattresses unless they are in excellent condition.
- Mattresses are commonly listed on online sales or materials exchange sites for residents who want to buy or sell reusable goods for the home, garage, and garden.
Recycling
- For a small fee, Second Chance Recycling will pickup your old mattress and deconstruct it for recycling. You can schedule a pick up and find pricing information on their website.
