  • For installation of above-ground utilities or underground utility construction in the right of way (ROW) you must complete a Right of Way permit application, also known as a Utility Permit.

  • If you are doing work on the shoreline or a lot that is adjacent to a lake, check with the Rice Creek Watershed District and the Department of Natural Resources to make sure that you have all necessary permits.

  • Yes. You can print off the appropriate permit application and fax it with all necessary information (i.e. Licensing, plans, approvals, etc.) to 651-634-5137, or email to City Hall. DO NOT INCLUDE CREDIT CARD INFORMATION. We do not take credit card payments by fax or over the phone. Credit card payments are accepted in person or online only.

  • If you are a contractor, you will need to provide either your state license or city license, along with proof of insurance. Homeowners doing their own work will need to complete an affidavit verifying their home ownership status.

  • A building plan is required any time you are altering or adding to the existing conditions or when constructing new. The plan is required to help ensure compliance with the current code for any new work.

  • If you are just replacing cabinets and not moving walls, removing wall finishes, or replacing windows, then no permit is required.

  • ROOFING INSPECTION

    Photos of ice/water can be posted on site with an inspection card or emailed to the inspector. Contact the Building Inspector at 651-792-7813 for a final inspection when work is completed.

    SIDING INSPECTION

    Photos of house wrap can be posted on site with inspection card or emailed to the inspector.  Contact the Building Inspector at 651-792-7813 for a final inspection when work is completed.

  • A plumbing permit is required by a licensed plumber to install the backflow prevention device. No permit is required for the actual sprinkler system.
