2020 Old Snelling Ave and Co Rd E Improvements
The City of Arden Hills and Ramsey County have programmed improvements for the intersection of County Road E and Old Snelling Avenue, including the proposed construction of a roundabout. The Ramsey County Transportation Improvement Program currently identifies project funding for this intersection improvement. The city has identified funding within the current Capital Improvement Program for improvements to the intersection and for Old Snelling Avenue from County Road E to TH 51.
The city and county are in the early stages of planning for improvements to address infrastructure challenges within the proposed project corridor. Pavement conditions along Old Snelling Avenue have deteriorated, with a pavement condition rating is below 30. The intersection of County Road E and Old Snelling currently has significant delays and queuing issues during the afternoon peak hour. In addition, the city and county have recently identified deteriorated sections of sanitary sewer and storm sewer within the intersection and extending north of County Road E.
Project planning efforts are currently evaluating the following potential improvements at this time:
- Reconstruction of Old Snelling Avenue from County Road E to Highway 51 (Snelling Avenue);
- Construction of a single lane roundabout at the intersection of County Road E and Old Snelling Avenue in partnership with Ramsey County;
- Construction of a pedestrian trail along Old Snelling Avenue from County Road E to Highway51;
- Replacement of watermain, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer based on a condition assessment currently underway.
A neighborhood meeting has been set for Thursday, October 17, 2019, 4:30-7:00 p.m., at Arden Hills City Hall, Council Chambers.
