Xcel Energy Gas Pipeline Reconstruction Project Update

Xcel Energy published an update about its pipeline reconstruction project along County Road E, Snelling Avenue and Red Fox Road.

Work along County Road E and Lexington Avenue

Construction along the north side of County Road E between Lexington Avenue and Old Snelling Avenue is complete. In the next few weeks, crews will begin work along the south side of County Road E in the same area.

Excavation work along Lexington Avenue is ongoing and crews will begin prepping the area for the upcoming tunneling that will occur under the railroad, just north of County Road E.

Work along Snelling Avenue

Construction continues along the east side of Old Snelling Avenue, heading south towards Snelling Avenue/Highway 51. Drivers should anticipate following traffic impacts:

A northbound lane closure on Snelling Avenue between County Road E and Highway 51 through August 2018. Drivers traveling northbound on Snelling Avenue will need to use Highway 51 and County Road E as the alternate route. Property owners will still have access to their driveways during this time.

Beginning early next week, Arden Place Road will be closed. Please use Forest Lane, Skiles Lane, and Glenarden Lane as your detour route.

Once construction crews reopen Arden Place Road, Forest Lane will temporarily close to traffic. These side street closures are a result of the work along Snelling Avenue.

Work along Red Fox Road

Crews continue excavation work and laying pipeline along Red Fox Road, east of International Paper. We anticipate the tunneling project under Highway 51 will begin within the next few weeks.

What to expect during construction

Drivers and nearby residents can expect the following impacts:

Crews will be working from 7 a.m.-7 p.m., Monday through Saturday

             Construction noise for nearby residents

Sidewalk closure on the south side of County Road E between Old Snelling Avenue and Highway 51. Please use alternate routes!

Equipment, materials, and construction crews along the road and in the boulevard in the existing right-of-way.

Drivers can also expect temporary, intermittent lane closures in the project area through fall 2018. Our construction crews will use signage and/or flaggers to direct traffic, as needed.

Thank you for your ongoing patience and cooperation.

Local law enforcement is working with our crews to maintain public safety during construction. Please continue to pay attention and drive safely through the area when construction crews and equipment are present. We want you and our crews to stay safe.
